There is no shame in taking 2nd place at State. Congratulations Grand Rapids Thunderhawk Boy’s Basketball you did the town proud and fought all the way to the end. I’m still impressed that we’ve made it to state 9 times since the group of ’97′ finishing as high as 2nd place. Not bad for a town that was all about hockey 15 years ago. Coach Eidelbes and Elhard have turned that program around. I remember the first GR basketball camp when I was 11 years old. Great job guys!
Congratulations to the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks on making it to the MN State Boy’s State Championship. The Thunderhawks have made it to state 7 times since my group in 97 broke the ice. Grand Rapids has never won a state title in basketball so this would be something great for them. The highest that we’ve ever placed was 3rd place back when Eric Webb was leading the way. Good Luck Thunderhawks!
These guys make millions of dollars throughout their careers and end up with nothing. How can someone lose so much money and be so careless? Everyone is quick to stereotype these guys but until you’ve been put in that situation you can’t judge. I have never and will never make as much money but I can relate in way. During my years with the Gophers it seemed everyone was your friend but you soon realize when you leave or these same people were around are no longer there and the only people still there after all the smoke clears is your true friends and family. I’m sure that it’s 100 times worse when you have millions of dollars coming in and everyone seems to think they are entitled to a piece. All that money and so young just is a disaster waiting to happen. Not all pro players end up broke up many learn the hard way. Below is a video about Antoine Walker.

The NBL announced the teams that will be in the league for the 2010/11 season and the Taipans have been given a lifeline. The team has worked hard to gain the support of the community and it has paid off. Everyone associated with the Taipans have worked extremely hard it has paid off. Here’s to a winning season in 2010/11. Go Taipans!
Tomorrow is the big announcement from the NBL on who’s in and who’s out of the league for next season. The Taipans are definitely riding the fence which could go either way. I’m hoping that the league understands that even though Cairns is a small market team they are still a big piece to the puzzle. Sure it costs fox sports more to broadcast our games and I say don’t broadcast them then and just put us on tv when we are in the “Big market” cities. I don’t think that’s the only problem holding Cairns back. From a players perspective the more teams the better. Better for veterans still in their prime and better for rookies trying to enter the league. The 8 team comp was great this year but if run right this league could be one of the best.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers have defeated the Purdue Boilermakers today at the BigTen Tournament. I don’t think they got enough conference wins to go dancing but with two quality wins over Michigan State and Purdue might get them over the line. Now get Ohio State for an automatic bid. Go Gophers!
Minnesota Golden Gophers staying alive with a great BigTen Tournament win over Michigan State today. Can we win a few more to get that NCAA birth? If we can get in with all the troubles we had this year it will be a great boost for the program going into next year hopefully with all our guys.
Winning an MVP award is something that I will remember the rest of my life as one of my best accomplishments. Even thought I started out slow it was a very challenging year and up and down compared to previous years in the NBL.
My focus is on whether or not the Taipans are going to be in the NBL next season or not. It seems as if we are the only team that is depending on the NBL to make a decision. Not having a say in your fate is something hard to grasp but it’s been that way for many teams over my time in the NBL and it doesn’t look like it going to change anytime soon.
